New Balance 993 Collection

The history of the New Balance 993

The New Balance 993 was first released in 1994 and is an update of the popular New Balance 990. The 993 model was built on the same last as the 990, but it includes a few changes.

Though you can still feel the heritage of the original 990 in this model, some things have changed for performance and comfort. These updates were so important that this shoe has gone down in history as one of New Balance's flagship models.

Some key features include:

  • ENCAP technology, which provided a more cushioned ride than ever before
  • RevLite midsole material for a soft yet bouncy feel underfoot

The 993 is a classic silhouette that has been retroed.

The 993 is a classic silhouette that has been retroed for years now, but the next big drop is about to happen.

The characteristics of the New Balance 993

As New Balance’s way of celebrating both their heritage and the culture surrounding it, the brand has combined the best characteristics of the New Balance 990 v4 and 991 into one shoe. The resulting silhouette, the New Balance 993, is a hybrid model that pairs premium materials with modern performance.

The 993 features an ENCAP midsole that responds to every step while providing stability to your stride. A mesh/suede upper comes in two colorways: a black-and-white version with hits of light grey on the heel tab and underfoot, or a true blue runner with navy suede overlays and white accents. The shoe’s look will be familiar for fans of either the 990 or 991 silhouettes, but its placement as a Made in USA style gives it some unique personality — not to mention quality.

The New Balance 993 collaborations

New Balance 993 x Oshman's

If your New Balance kicks are anything like mine, you might have a weak spot for the classic blue-and-white colorway. And even if you don't, this shoe is still a beauty. Famed designer Philippe Starck sat down with Oshman's in Brooklyn to create the limited edition model and make sure it was classy and funky all at once. He designed the sneaker to be half dress shoe and half casual sneaker, fitting into both environments effortlessly.

New Balance 993 x J. Crew

For those who can't get enough of the brand's classic aesthetic but want to make it slightly more urban, this collaboration with J. Crew proves that you can go hip without busting out your khakis and oxford button-downs. The New Balance take on menswear doesn't come without a price tag though: while they're not exactly cheap , they do come in at $200 if purchased individually or $700 if you buy them as part of the collection .
